NSE in steady rise

A review of the week's performance indicators chart shows a steady climb all through the week except for Tuesday. The ASI and Market Capitalisation increased by 117.36 basis points (0.55%) and N27 billion (0.55%) on Monday to close at 21,466.54 points and N5.064 trillion. Tuesday's indices decreased by 71.50 points (0.33%) and N17 billion (0.34%) while the indices appreciated by 72.22 points (0.34%) and N17 billion (0.34%) on Wednesday. On Thursday, they garnered 101.02 points (0.47%) and N54 billion (1.07%) and on Friday they increased by 67.08 points (0.31%) and N16 billion (0.31%) to close the week at 21,635.36 points and N5.134 trillion. In comparison with the previous week, the indicators increased by 286.18 points (1.34%) and N98 billion (1.94%) respectively. In the same vein, activities on the floor of the Exchange improved when compared with the prior week. An overview shows the total volume of trades appreciating by 45.18% from 2.18 billion units to 3.16 billion units, the number of deals by 0.19% from 30,275 deals to 30,334 deals except for the value which dipped by 10.16% from N17.21 billion to N15.46 billion. Analysis of Top Percentage Gainers and Losers More equities recorded price increases in the week under review as 42 (28%) stocks appreciated, 42 (28%) shed weight, with 65 (44%) constant in their share prices as against 32 (21%) advancers, 51 (34%) decliners and 69 (45%) which were stagnant the previous week. Top Gainers by Percentage Dangote Flour Mills Plc was the highest price gainer adding N1.49 (27.04%) to its previous week's position to record N7.00. Other notable gainers were FCMB, Ikeja Hotel, C & I Leasing, Cornerstone Insurance, among others. Top Losers by Percentage Continental Re-insurance Plc had the highest percentage loss, shedding N0.26kobo (16.67%) to close at N1.30. Others were Livestock Feeds, Law Union & Rock Insurance, Daar Communication, Prestige Assurance, Conoil, to mention few. News Guaranty Trust Assurance Plc listed The Nigerian Stock Exchange listed 10,000,000,000 Ordinary shares of 50kobo each at N3.00 per share in favour of Guaranty Trust Assurance Plc on the floor of the Exchange on Thursday November 19, 2009.
